3:01 am
one suspect is dead. the other at large. police are on the trail. they believe they have kind of cornered him in a building in the watertown section of boston. if you are just joining us and just waking up to the news it started at 10:30 last night when these two suspects robbed a 7-11 in cambridge and went to the cam pus of mit where they shot and killed an mit police officer, car-jacked a car and then the police started chasing them into watertown. the watertown area. as they were doing so. the suspects were throwing explosives from the car. they arrived in the watertown area there ensued a gun ask the fight. the guy in the black hat got out of the car. he had an ied strapped to his body and mr. white hat escaped. he is at large considered at large and dangerous, and the entire area of watertown, the western suburbs of boston have

this show is about analyzing criticizing, and holding policy to the fire. are you encouraged by what you heard the president say the other night? is this personal or is it political? a lot of my work happens by doing the things that i am given to doing anyway. staying in tough with everything that is going on politically and putting my own nuance on it. not only does senator rubio just care about rich people but somehow he thinks raising the minimum wage is a bad idea for the middle class. but we do care about them, right? vo: the war room monday to thursday at 6 eastern alright, in 15 minutes we're going to do the young turks. i think the number one thing that viewers like about the young turks is that we're honest. they know that i'm not bs'ing them with some hidden agenda, actually supporting one party or the other. when the democrats are wrong, they know
3:06 am
that i'm going to be the first one to call them out. they can question whether i'm right, but i think that the audience gets that this guy, to the best of his ability, is trying to look out for us. [ music ] broadcasting across the nation on your radio and on current tv this is "the bill press show." >> bill: good friday morning, everybody. it is friday april 19th. we are coming to you live from our nation's capitol, where we and it seems the entire world are focused on the unfolding situation up in boston.
3:07 am
if you are just rolling out of bed, if you are just getting up if you are just tuning in and you haven't been up all night watching the news, it has been a night of mayhem in the boston area jumping to the chase, one of the suspects in the boston bombing of the marathon on monday is dead. the other is at large. he is armed and dangerous. parts of the city of boston have been -- the western suburbs of boston have been shut down as the police are dragging him down. they have warned everybody to stay indoors. they have shut down the entire public transit system in the area. area. it's a very touchy situation in boston. events have moved very fast. bringing up bringing you up to date, it started at 10:30 last night, started yesterday afternoon late when the f.b.i. released the photos of the two suspects, one in a black hat one in a white

hat both walking through the area, both carrying back packs. both seen putting their back packs down and leaving the area. and the police were trying to find them, track them down. but as the actions of the two men, themselves, that brought police to -- after them. it was their actions that got them to -- brought to the attention of authorities. they started last night at 10:30 when they robbed a 7-11. they went on the campus of mit where they shot and killed a police officer sitting in his car and then they carjacked a car and police took after them, an s.u.v. the car chase ensued. the dis respect were driving through the western suburbs throwing explosives out of their car. they got to water town and the gun chase gun fight follows from that. the blackhat gets out of the car. he is shot and killed by police
3:09 am
officers. he has an i.e.d strapped to his chest. they run over his body. then the white hat during this at this confusion, he escapes on foot in to the area of watertown. and that is when the police locked down the western suburbs. this morning, they are asking everybody to stay indoors. 24e6 shut down the transit systems, and they are asking people not to congregate at the bus stops or the subway stops waiting for the service to resume. but to go back home if they are already home and if they haven't left home, to stay home. not let anybody in. and there are reports that the police officer are now focused on and zeroed in on one building where they believe that suspect is. let's dip into the coverage locally. up in boston. this is w ht h, channel 7, the nbc affiliate in boston and pick-up their coverage. >> a young man considered out of
3:10 am
a young family with a little child, just putting on their socks and let's go back to the swat.w.a.t. team, john, as they work this area more having rusly than they have at any time during the night sweeping through the houses they have apparently satisfied themselves that the explosives were not as dangerous as they feared they might be earlier in the night. they felt safe enough they could move the residents out and now moved in to at least one house here, heavily armored themselves moving and searching. as you heard from one of the residents, checking the residences as well for potential weapons and the investigation continues. i will go back for a moment while you continue to watch. >> yes. we had heard that neighbors should not be surprised if police officers that would be clearly defined as an officers. when a s.w.a.t. team comes to your door, that looks obvious
3:11 am
they may be making sweeps going in and out of homes. initially, we were hearing they may be doing that and sort of almost surveying the households to make sure there wasn't anybody there that didn't belong. also talking about suspicious devices possibly making a sweep through back yards, through back yards, we saw devices being thrown from vehicles and somebody reporting seeing a pressure cooker in the street, which we all know now was a device that one, if not two used on monday at the marathon. so the concern isn't just about finding our suspect number 2, which is obviously the primary focus but then also, once they capture that person, the concern about public safety and what else might be left behind. they have been asking people to stay indoors basically have that city and many others around it under lockdown. we are seeing some families now leave, the family dan showed us with the young child, the gentleman there who earlier was showing the scene from out of
3:12 am
his window and i wonder where they are going, if there is some sort of shelter or going to a high school or something like that. we haven't had word because last we heard from authorities was that people should stay put. >> if you can imagine waking up to this scene in your house. >> sure. >> these people probably heard everything last night. >> they can see or hear there, the police sweeping the area house by house by house. they have asked people to stay indoors. there are also reports earlier that they were bringing buses in to move people out of the area if they wanted to get out of their homes and just get completely away from the scene. again, let's go back to yesterday afternoon. the head of the boston office of the fbi, rick delarea. they made the decision overnight to release the video and the photos of these two men, suspect 1 and suspect 2. suspect 1 wearing the black hat.
3:13 am
suspect 2 -- i may have them backwards. one was black hat, one was white hat. with back packs. rick delarea said these are the two guys. we need your help if anybody has ever seen these two guys around call the f.b.i. >> after a detailed analysis, photo, and other evidence, we are releasing photos of these two suspects. they are identified as suspects 1 and suspect 2. they appear to be associated. >> bill: and then, yesterday afternoon, also, in boston president obama speaking at the inter faith service in memory of those who lost their lives and were injured in the boston marathon had a message to these two guys right after the photos had been released. >> to those who carried this out and anyone who would do harm to our people, yes, we will find you. and, yes you will face justice >> bill: yes, we will find you. well, they found themselves, as
3:14 am
i pointed out. the f.b.i. on their trail but these guys took -- they realized, thankfully that the f.b.i. was closing in. and so they decided they had to get out of the area. they started by robbing the 711 shooting and killing a m.i. t. security officer and car-jacking the car and going in this car chase this morning. ed davis, who is the police commissioner for boston said this one guy on the loose. >> we believe this to be a terrorist. we believe this to be a man who has come here to kill people. we need to get him in custody. >> timothy albin followed up by warning people, again, about the lone suspect at large. >> he should be considered armed and dangerous and is a threat to anybody that might approach him. >> bill: and just this morning, just maybe about a half hour
3:15 am
ago, the latest police briefing the head of police for the watertown area no doubt about it, these are not unrelated. these are the same two guys that planted the bombs on monday. >> we believe these are the same individuals that were responsible for the bombing on monday at the boston marathon. we believe that they are responsible for the death of an m.i. t. police officer and the shooting of an mbta police officer. this is a very serious situation that we are dealing with >> bill: it is an unfolding situation. again, we will keep on top of it with you checking in with w ht h in boston and all of our sources. some of the reporters that we have talked to throughout the week from u.s. a today who are on the scene in boston and, of course, give you a chance to comment on what's going on. if you are in that area, and we hear from amount of you in that area, around thebot area,
3:16 am
particularly the western suburbs, the watertown area, which includes cambridge. i don't know boston well enough to know the names of the communication. >> i don't either. >> i have a nephew and his wife. bill -- will and alicia and their two songs, benjamin and, oh, my, forgetting my other little nephew's name or cousins's name who live in that area and everybody has been warned to stay indoors. >> the area that the police are telling residents to stay in is watertown, belmont, newton alston, brighton and cambridge. those areas if you are in that area of boston they are saying stay indoors. don't come outside. don't answer the door unless you can absolutely guarantee it's a police officer at the door. >> choose the charles river and of course, that's where harvard is, that entire area. your comments, 866-55-press,
3:17 am
wherever you are in this great land of ours, particularly if you are in the boston area. by the way, then not identified by name the suspects yet. buzz it has been reported that they have some international ties, whatever that means, that they ah ve -- meaning they are not americans, i think is what that means. because they say they have been in the united states for the up to a year. we don't know in what capacity. i have heard that question asked. nobody said for sure yet whether they were students at harvard or m.i. t. or whatever on a work permit, that they may have some military experience as well. clearly, i think, what we see from theirtions so far is that these guys knew what they were doing. they were, if you will professional terrorists. there was some thought on monday from the size of the bombs and
3:18 am
the fact that the bombs didn't do more damage that these were like amateur. >> yeah. >> home-grown. it looks like it's worse than that. they knew what they were doing, and they also had cable had carefully planned both the bombs and their attempted get away because they had ex plotsives in the car, i.e. i.e.d. s. they had multiple guns obviously. so they ah ve at a time appears to me they must have had not only the planning but the training that went ahead of the planning. all of this, of course is a developing story. we don't want to get ahead of the story. what we told you so far is just what has happened and what has been reported this morning. >> peter: i mean -- >> bill: scary stuff. if you are living in that area, you would be petrified with your kids to wake up to this.
3:19 am
>> peter: this is terrorism. that's well-established but this is terrorism defined. there are pictures out there on twitter. we are retweeting some, getting them out there people waking up in that area now this morning, now that the sun is up or the daylight is coming around, there are military personnel on top of people's sheds, camped out with guns in their backyard. people are looking in their backyard, authorities swarming everywhere. it is a very serious situation there right now. >> bill: it's a lockdown in the boston area. one suspect is dead. one is still at large, armed and dangerous. everybody has been told to stay indoors while the police track this guy and find him. and again, there have been two reports so far that they believe they have located him in or around one building. >> that's the focus of attention so far. we will keep on top of it and get your calls and bring you up

everything shut down in the boston area until they locate the last suspect, the one seen wearing the white hat in the video. and they were found, the f.b.i. releasing the photos. this often happens, that the suspicions, themselves do something that attract the attention of the authorities. they had not yet found these two individuals, and they robbed the 711 then killed a police officer last night. >> that's when the authorities zeroed in on them. >> just a quick timeline, the suspects, when their photos got out yesterday, when the f.b.i. released those, they freaked out. they realized they needed to get the out of the area. >> bill: and to steal a car >> peter: and steel a car. at 10:20 last night, they committed and armed robbery. >> at the 7-11? >> at the 7-11. then they stole a car in the

3:34 am
of boston of the suspects number 1, wearing the black hat, was shot and killed by authorities. suspect number 2 wearing the white hat is on the loose, considered armed and dangerous. s.w.a.t. teams are now coming the area joining us on our news line o our local progressive talk radio station and sirius sirius xm. ron agrilla is the editor of boston.com. tell us how big an area is this watertown? they are talking about the western suburbs. >> that's a pretty big area. isn't it? >> it's relatively big. boston, itself, is a relatively small city geographically with a lot of people. the watertown area is on the west side. the whole area there boston, cambridge, watertown, all of that area is on very high alert, and police describe it as a very grave and serious situation. >> bill: what are the s.w.a.t.
3:35 am
teams doing now to make the residents safe there or to find this guy? >> right now, the authorities have told all residents to stay in their homes, keep their doors locked, do not open the door unless you are very confident it's a police officer who is at it. the mbta subway system and transportation system around boston has been shut down which is -- >> would you wow -- >> unheard of. >> apparently trying to block off all transportation routes for the suspects. >> bill: streets and highways have been closed? nobody can drive around either? >> the streets and highwaysare closed. highways farther along the proximity are open and people are traveling. but businesses in the immediate area are closed down. police are telling drivers in that area if someone approaches your car, do not open it, open your door for anyone. keep your doors locked and just keep driving.
3:36 am
>> bill: and there were some -- i heard reports earlyier that some of the families were being evacuated. buses were being brought in to take people out of the area if they wanted to go? can you confirm that? >> i can't confirm that just yet. we are looking into it i can't confirm that myself. but this is a very fluid situation. the city as i said has effectively shut down on one side and this massive manhunt is really almost going door to door. we are watching s.w.a.t. teams and other law enforcement, following up on tips checking out residents in the area. we just don't know where this person is right now. >> bill: do we know anything more? peter, you were just mentioning if we can run, peter ogburn our producers in studio here had just had a report from pete williams, i guess, from nbc. >> pete williams from nbc is reporting that these gentlemen are legal, permanent residents. they have been in the country
3:37 am
for at least a year. so they could possibly be from turkey or czechoslavakia or check knee czhenia. >> with the cools in the area they have been there on a student visa or who knows? >> that's very possible. : during the press briefing today, boston fwlooeings commissioner, edward davis says he believes the circulating nurse expect who was killed and probably the other suspect as well is indeed a terrorist and that they were in fact, and i quote, they believe this man to this man to be here to kill people. whether he is part of a terrorist group or not, stand

by, wait until this person is captured and we will get more. i knew you follow the scanner. talking to again, ron -- i'm sorry agrella. sorry, ron. editor of boston.com. there were reports we heard earlier, too, monitoring all of this, that it seemed that there was a lot of police activity focused on one building. what can you tell us about that? do they think they know where this guy might be holed up? >> i can't say for sure. i know that they have gone to several today. they are looking at both residents and buildings within the area. although that's a relatively small geeographic area, it is highly -- it's depositionly populated. >> cambridge, i know pretty well
3:39 am
well. it's the home of harvard and a lot of major institutions. there are many personslaces for this person to possibly go. i have to imagine with all of the police on the street it would be hard for anyone to travel, including him. but, you know, you just never know. please aren't taking any chances. number 1 is the sun is coming out. that will affect it. police weren't able to get their helicopters up and choppers to survey the area and look. so maybe as the sun comes up. >> i am sure that would help. it is cloudy today here in boston and, perhaps, that is
3:40 am
delaying it the search a little bit. >> take us back to yesterday afternoon or even the few days since the bombing ron. i would imagine the whole city has been on edge knowing that. whoever did this was probably out there on the loose. right? >> that's true. there has been an unusual feeling in the city obviously since monday. i think the mood went from shock and horror to just sort of a determination that we are going to keep moving forward and that these people will be captured and that the city will return to normal. you know, you expect terrorism to hit the larger cities new york city, washington l.a. london. boston is a small community. it has -- it's a city of neighborhoods, and the boston marathon, obviously, it's a huge
3:41 am
international event, which is why most people suspect that it was a target in this case, but residents here really... >> the city has pulled together. in this moment a frightening one for the city and i am sure police are getting a great deal of cooperation from residents and the police are doing an extraordinary job there. hey, ron, thank you so much for being with us this morning. we hope to check back with you a little bit later in the broadcast, and we will keep an eye on reports. i know you will, too, ron agrella is the editor of boston.com. >> we talked about pete williams saying it was chechnya or turkey where these guys are from. the ap is reporting these suspects are from the russia region near chechnya. one of them was 20 or one of them is 20. 1 is 21. we are not sure which one is deceased but 20 and 21 are the
3:42 am
ages. ap is backing up nbc's reporting that they are from chechnya. obviouslition we will have to e see how that goes but that's two sources on that. >> what i hear you say that doesn't connect is that they were legal residents? they had only been here up to a year? how can they be legal if they have only been here a year? >> i don't know. i don't know. >> bill: maybe that means that they were here legally. >> peter: yeah >> bill: on a visa. again, developing story, the police with the entire western suburbs of boston locked down the watertown area which includes cambridge, which includes harvard square, mit that greatentire great communicatety there, locked down and s.w.a.t. teams going door to door asking people to stay indoors, only open their doors if they know it's a police officer or a squad of police officers at the door. otherwise, to stay indoors.

this is "the bill press show." >> it's now 14 minutes before the top of the hour, friday april 19th. if you are just joining us, the suspect in the bombing of the boston marathon, one suspect is dead. police are now tracking down hunting down the second suspect who is at large and considered armed and dangerous in the watertown area of boston where the two of them fled last night after robbing a 7-11 in cambridge and shooting an mit police officer and stealing a car and ending up with a police chase or getting in a please chase that ended up in the watertown area of boston. pete williams from nbc news is reporting that they are two men
3:48 am
from chechnya. one, 20. the 21. pete williams is saying they were brothers. they have been in the country for about a year, and they may have some military training. jason sickles is breaking-news reporter for yahoo news who joins us on our news line this morning. jason, we understand you have been up all night following this. so i doubly appreciate your time. take us back to the beginning. when did you first hear what was going on? and take us from there. >> probably around 10:15 or so, i just happened to be thinking about going to bed after a long day of covering the developments yesterday. when we first got wind of a shooting, shots fired at the m. at the m.i. t. campus an alert
3:49 am
that the campus sent out. things quickly evolved once we learned that the officer had died and the suspects who were responsible for his death. they essentially ambushed him as he was answering a call related to the 7-11 robbery. they am beneficial him, we are told, and that's when they stole the mercy with that driver still -- mercedes with the driver in the car and let him go free and took the mercedes into watertown. >> that's when the local police officers on patrol there encountered them and there was one heck of a gun battle ensued. >> bill: did they identify them right away as asuspects of the marathon bombing? >> no. it took them awhile. as a matter of fact, after i believe the suspect one, the one who is deceased. he arrived at the hospital.
3:50 am
law enforcement officials had a hunch knowing that when the officials in watertown encountered they were officers were describing grenades and other explosives. >> bill: we heard the suspect number 1 who got out of the car wearing the black hat who was shot and killed by officers had an i.e.d. strapped to his chest. there was a lot of planning in this in their esc cape and attempt to get out of the area. >> yeah. you wonder what they were up to. >> what is going on now in the water town area? can you tell us? >> everything is on lockdown, the entire -- all of the schools and not only in watertown but about five other neighboring communities. the governor order mass transit shut down, no buses, no trains no vehicles are allowed on the streets in watertown.
3:51 am
they are asking businesses to close and they were waiting for daylight sot that tactical officers could go building by building, house by house, and look for the suspect. they think that they've got a perimeter of around about 20 blocks in watertown where they think him closed into. that process just started probably 30 minutes ago. >> bill: well, you know, i have been to cambridge several times not just around harvard square, but out into some of the more residential areas of cambridge and visited friends there. my wife had an aunt who lived there. >> that's a big area. there is a lot of open space a lot of big back yards, a lot of parks it seems that that's a big area. you know, they have to cover inch by inch basically to find this guy. >> it is, but i think that they felt pretty con fit ent. at least what i have been hearing on the police radios
3:52 am
overnight that they felt like, you know by 2:00 a.m. or so 3:00 a.m., that they had like i said a 20 by 20 block area where they felt like they had him confined. they are starting at least with that, that they have asked the outlying areas and, you know, schools are closed harvard is closed m.i. t. is closed today, to also just be on heightened alert. >> bill: can you tell us where that area is? is it around harvard square? is it near the campus or -- sickles. i am not familiar with the area as well. to the south. >> all right. good. final question: when they got to watertown, when this guy would have escaped out of the car, i am trying to determine: how long has he been on the loose? the end of the gunfire there, the one suspect was killed and that's the time that the guy with the white hat escapes. there was about what? midnight, would you say? >> no. it was after midnight.
3:53 am
you know many coffees later. i am trying to think what time things happened. i would guess around 1:30, 2:00 a.m. it's about four or five hours they have been looking thatt at that 20-block area. they made a concentrated effort to the lights wait for daylight make the perimeter tight, tell everyone to stay in your homes, lock the doors and don't answer the door unless it's a police officer who koz to the door. >> what's the weather? >> cloudy, school for this area. >> cloudy because peter was asking earlier, could they get helicopters up? have you -- they could. it's a bit foggy as well. so they may have to. >> all right. jaysong, thank you so much. stay on top of it for us. i know you have been up all night. you may want to get some sleep but we may give you a call.

regular team peter ogburn dan henning. alicia cruz has the phones and cyprian boulding on the video cam. ginger and peter just updating here, it all started yesterday afternoon. we know they were brothers. suspect number 1 with a black hat. suspect number 2 with a white hat. they have back parks. you can see them walking through the area where all of the spectators were watching the runners, and they were walking up the sidewalk with their backpacks. other individual yes showed them placing the backpacks down. the police -- the f.b.i. released these and asked for the help of people that they regular -- if they recognized them at all. before they could get on their trail, they saw the photos. they realized they had to get
4:09 am
out of dodge and needed cash to do so. about 10:20, they robbed a 711 on the campus of mit. a police officer arrived on the scene. they shot and killed him then they car jacked a mercedes s.u.v., let the driver out of the car and took off. police in pursuit. there were reports they werethrowing explosives grenades, out of the car as they were racing away. theyed up in watertown. we have heard that the car, they crashed the car into something. then there was a horrific gunfight with police officers. the driver of the car, suspect number 1, with the black hat got out of the car. he was shot and killed by authorities. he was wearing an ied strapped to his chest. his brother, now we know 19-year-old
4:10 am
19-year-old, his brother, was on the loose. that will brings us up to date. ginger gibson and now authorities trying to track him down in that area. >> we were up listening to the police scanners. they had them broadcasting online. they have been hours now chasing this guy. it's been ongoing. >> peter: it's about five hours he has been on the loose. those police scanners. >> whbh they are entering an apartment building with guns drawn and there is a reporter from the scene if we can take that audio now. >> as this situation develops. >> adam we can hear what sounds to be a police officer on a megaphone behind you. i am not sure if they were telling people to get back or
4:11 am
what not. stoffel comfortable giving the location or with hold that? >> no. we are on nichols avenue a residential neighborhood. it was my understanding for the megahorn, that's actually directed towards us right now. i am on one side. it's around the corner. this is a residential neighborhood and i can tell you that we have been here since maybe 1:00 a.m. this morning, and this was part of that neighborhood not too far removed from where initially here in watertown, there were the explosives and the gunshots were fired. this is maybe two or three streets removed from that. and that's where i was told from a law enforcement source that in
4:12 am
this neighborhood, there were several explosives believed to be or undetonated explosives that authorities thought may be around here so yeah, again, this is nichols avenue. and this is a residential portion of the town in the last five minutes or so this has been the most activity we have seen with certainly more than two dozen s.w.a.t. officers with their rifles out. now that you mention it, i am hearing this bullhorn although it's kind of hard for me to listen on the phone, talk and try to get a sense for what he is saming. it doesn't seem like it's overly -- it is a tension situation. it is important but we aren't being told to move back any further. and it's my understanding from the officer here, just in speaking with him that, you know, should this certainly get more tension, they would push us back and they haven't done that
4:13 am
yet. so, you know at this point, it's more speculation, but i don't exactly feel unsafe. i feel like authorities clearly very long -- >> bill: we will continue to monitor that situation. just -- in the watertown area peter, do you have those communities again? belmont? >> peter: i had the list of the communities. >> bill: everything west of the charles river. har, harvard square mit, cambridge. >> newton, wal that may, cambridge, allston and brighton. >> they run together there. i have been in that area many times. it's shut down. residents have been asked to stay indoors. don't answer their door unless they look out and see it's clearly police officers. all businesses have been ordered not to open today. no traffic is allowed. nobody is allowed in or out of that area. no traffic allowed on the
4:14 am
streets the buses, the subway the t, the commuter rail has been shut down. amtrak service from boston anywhere has been shut down. this entire part of the city is on lockdown as they continue to hunt for suspect number 2, the one wearing the white hat. his brother, who was 20 or 21, is dead, and this clearly ginger these guys knew what they were doing. there was a lot of planning that went into this event and a lot of planning into their escape. >> they were in some way prepared, that there were more explosives on them, they were heavily armed and you saw the white hat. he is now in a green hoodie. he is wearing a green hoodie from the 711 that the police released, circulating on

twitter, and so seems to have been prepared to keep going and get away. >> what we know about him, he is a legal resident. he came here on student visa i guess. i am not sure how he can be a legal resident but he lived in champ bridge. they lived in cambridge. the one who is at large again is 19 years old. he has a massachusetts driver's license. and he and his brother are from chechnya. so who knows what the motivation was or what the message was or where they were trained. >> seems very early for speculating. we don't know where they came from, where they were trained, if they had backing, if they were operating by themselves. at this point action we know very little. lots of people googling these guys' names and, you know, turns out it's not a particularly uncommon last name. >> is that right?
4:16 am
tsarnaev. >> i don't know any tsarnaevs. >> from a town in chechnya. >> what was his brother's name? do we know? >> i have not seen that. >> pete williams identified it first from nbc news identified them as brothers. now the name is out there. in fact, i just heard one reporter say he was born, this one at loose, on july 22nd, 1993. >> he has the sources. whatever pete williams says you can believe. >> when he goes on air. >> unlike john king. >> on twitter, when he goes on air, like the twitter feed he is on air. change the channel real quick. >> talking. >> everybody shut up and pay attention to what pete williams is saying. >> that's been the morning yeah. >> i am reminded of the oklahoma bombing with timothy mcveigh, not taking anything away from
4:17 am
law enforcement authorities but they didn't track timothy mcveigh and find him. he got stopped on a routine traffic stop which was a lucky break. here, too, the f.b.i. had not tracked these guys down where they lived and gone in and found them. it was their actions that brought the attention of police. so i guess that maybe that often happens in investigations like this. >> this morning, you know, 12:45, this started bubbling up on the internet, the cable networks weren't on air. they broke into the re-runs. i was watching television at 1:15 this morning and started going on air. at that point, nobody knew. are these related, not related the there was probably a few hours when no one was sure. they said, there was a police officer killed. is this response because an officer kilted often draws a big please response. it became clear as the f.b.i. showed up and there was way more responses that that was what was going on. >> bill: once they started throwing explosives outed of the

car and once they got to watertown and they were returning fire, the cops and the guys, the ied's, they spent 10 minutes trying to revive him. they they knew these are the same two guys. it's just a matter of time before they find this guy in watertown, it seems. so from monday through friday hell for boston but it may be over within the next couple of hours here. 86655-press and on twitter. >> peter: to back up while we are waiting for more news to come out. the president yesterday when he spoke showed the president at his very best, some of the stuff he had to say at the service. >> the president was -- i think he really captured the spirit of the moment and the spirit of the

[applause.] >> bill: then what the people of boston and runners everywhere wanted to hear, the president saying, you just wait until next year. peachtree when the socks and patriots are heroes again, the

we are dealing with >> bill: ginger gibson joins us in studio. and you look pretty good for being up all night monitoring this news. >> thanks. >> unfortunately, i was not. >> once you get into it. right now, there is sort of a lull. police are going door to door, and there is a lot of activity focused on one particular apartment building we were told on nichols avenue in the entire area. we will continue to monitor that. ginger, people, there was one other thing that happened this week and people made a connection with boston. it turns out there was no boston connection. these are the ricin-laced letters. who is this guy? >> there is a man, curtis. he goes by kevin curtis in tupelo, mississippi. >> kc. >> there was a lot of speculation that these ricin letters sent to the senator,

4:34 am
good morning, everybody. thank you for joining us. and stay with us and as question monitor the situation in boston and bring you up to date, here, peter ogburn, dan henning, alicia cruz and cyprian boulding, our entire team, with our eyes and ears on boston. quickly if you are just joining us, bringing you up to date. it was about 10 hours -- 14 hours ago actually that the f.b.i. released the photos of the two suspects in the boston marathon bombing. it turns out they are brothers. one wearing the black hat, suspect number 1. suspect number 2 wearing the white hat. both carrying back parks. the police put the photos out asked the help theof the public in identifying them. before the f.b.i. could track them down, they realized they had to get out of dodge. they needed a car, and they needed money. they went looking for both on
4:35 am
the campus ofmit. 10:20, they robbed a 711. a police officer responded to that call and was shot and killed by these two men who then hijacked hijacked a mercedes s.u.v. they let the driver out and they took off. police in pursuit. he can changing gunfire throwing explosives out of the car as they raced away. they crashed into another vehicle or somehow crashed as they got into the watertown area. there was gunfire there. suspect number 1, black hat, gets out of the car. he is shot and killed by authorities. his body was run over by a police vehicle. he had an i.e.d. strapped to his chest which did not explode.
4:36 am
his brother, 19-year-old, white hat escaped. that was about 1:30 this morning. the police have been searching for him ever since. now that daylight has come up they may have the better chance of getting him. and they have confined the search to still a big area, the watertown area of boston which is in shutdown. it is locked down. the police officers have asked everybody to stay indoors. don't answer the door. stay indoored. don't even venture outside. don't venture into the backyard. swat.w.a.t. teams are going house by house by house through that neighborhood looking for this suspect. no vehicular traffic is allowed on the streets of the wear town area although suburbs west of the charles river, there is no public transit, no bus, no,
4:37 am
sirtrolly, no train, no subway and amtrak has shut down all service in and out of boston. businesses in the area have been told not to open their doors. what we know about the two suspects is they are brothers, they come from chechnya. they are legal resident did. they have been here apparently living in cambridge for over a year. again, one brother, the black hat. the older one is dead. the one on the loose is 19 years old. we have been checking in, and we will go back this morning to the coverage at w ht h. this is the nbcai fill "in the boston." let's check up with their live coverage. >> right on -- his home faces the street where much of the gunfire and explosions happen. what he describes is it's quite harrowing. he says that it was cars by the time he looked out he heard gunfeinfire and explosions and
4:38 am
saw two men. they took cover behind a black s.u.v., and he said that there were supplies that these men were bretting out of another green car. he have describes these two men shooting constantly and over and over again at the police that were in front of them and ever so often filling devices that they would throw at these police officers. just constantly filling some type of -- creating some kind of explosive device throwing it at the officers while continuing with gunfire. he said at one point, you saw one of the men with a pressure-cooker-like device and threw it, lit it somehow, threw it at the police officers. it created this huge smoke, ball of smoke that covered the entire street here on laurel street and he said at that point, that
4:39 am
particular suspect went up to police and continued opening fire and shooting as he walked toward the police officer. suspect at that point hopped into the black s.u.v., made a u-turn on laurel street and bareliedy barrelled through the barricade and that's how the black s.u.v. ended up in another place and not here on laurel street. he said that's how the second suspect must have gotten away. he describes it as just a harrowing scene that ever so often, he would look out his window and that's what he would continue to see is just begunfire and this pressure cooker-looking device being chucked over police as one of the suspects walked with a handgun and continued opening fire at police as the second suspect in the black s.u.v. made a u-turn and drove straight at
4:40 am
police, barrelling through their police cars and driving a bit. >> all right. susan, thank you so much giving us some insight into what's going on here. >> coverage from w ht h, channel 7 in boston. >> that very scene is playing out, a troubling scene. a lot of people moving out of their houses, getting out of their houses as police go in and sweep them up. let's get out to steve cooper now, joining us coop, you gave us a lot of information and broke a big chunk of the story early this morning. anything new for us? >> well, reed, in a short time from now there will be another briefing here at the watertown mall which is where we -- this has become the staging area. i have just been told that we are awaiting rival with the governor. the governor will be here for the next news briefing. again, he will be joined by currently albin. >> until about half an hour ago, we were told they had focused their activity, a lot of
4:41 am
activity on one apartment building in the -- on nichols avenue where they believe the suspect might have been holed up. there were some 20 s.w.a.t. team members who with guns drawn were approaching that building. haven't heard anything from there, peter. so that might have been a false alarm. >> it may be. i haven't seen anything from out of there. i am starting to sound like a broken record at this point. >> yeah. >> pete williams has some new information. >> the go-to geothis. >> reporting that the brothers came to the united states in 2002 or 2003. the other brothers' names. >> 2002? >> 2002 or 2003. >> they were sailing earlier that they have been here a year. they have been here 10 years? >> this is what pete williams is saying this morning. >> take it to the bank. when they say permanent legal

4:48 am
they have been in this country since maybe 2002, 2003. they are permanent legal residents. they live in cambridge. one of them got a scholarship. and meanwhile, in boston, all public schools have been cancelled. classes cancelled today as we mentioned earlier, all public transit is shut down until further notice. the situation, unheard of in boston and the classes have been cancelled at every university in the western watertown or western area of boston through the western suburbs. that includes harvard. that includesmit. that includes boston colleges and other colleges i don't even know about. >> that's sort of a learning center. we are waiting governor deval patrick who will join a news briefing there in the next probably 10 or 15 minutes

>> having problems. >> looks like there is an issue with the feed. >> bill: all right. we can reset the feed. >> but it has been an amazing sequence of events starting at about, again 10:20 last night. >> the brothers recognize even before the could -- i mean if they have been -- they have been here a long time. somebody, they are living in cambridge. somebody is going to recognize them. they knew this. they knew they had to get out of dodge. they knew they needed a car, which they obviously didn't have and they knew they needed cash, which they didn't have. they had weapons and that was all planned. they went out undercover of darkness to start this that's where they got the attention of authorities byro robbing this 7-11. conflicting reports that the police officer was responding or
4:51 am
they just ambushed him in his car. it sounds like the ladtter. they see this guy sitting in the car, shot and killed him. then hijacked this s.u.v. mercedes and that's when the police chase started. >> it is remarkable to see how the authorities handle this because yesterday afternoon, when they showed these pictures of these men, they had some very clear pictures of who these guys were. that set up set off alarms with these guys. they realized they needed to get out of there. i have never seen anything quite like that where they were crowd sourcing people. the authorities, as people were leaving boston at the airport, the authorities were at the airport, and they were asking them, were you at the mayor ton? did you take any pictures? any video? and they compiled this all of this data that showed these guys. and i think one of the eeriest pictures and we will tweet it
4:52 am
because you see one of the bombers with the white hat directly behind the 8-year-old boy that was killed and they were right there. they were right there. someone got it on camera which is important. and that iconic photo, bloomberg broke the story last night, the iconic photo of the man lost his legs being helped away by the man with the cowboy hat, he was heavily drugged up when he went to the hospital. when he woke up he immediately looked for a pen and paper and wrote down bag, man feet. he had seen the guy. he made eye contact with one of these be -- one of these bombers, saw the bag put down just a few feet in front of him and realized after the fact that that was the guy that had done it. he helped -- that man helped i.d. the bombers. incredible. >> what i thought was so chilling was the f.b.i.'s website shut down yesterday.
4:53 am
people like me that went there, tried to get there right away as soon as they were released to get a closer look and to really study their faces. but what i thought was so chilling with the video was the two of them walking up the street and the sidewalk where they were walking was almost empty because all of the people were pressed up against the barrier there, the next watching the runners, not paying any attention to what was in back of them. i kept thinking of that we hear it in the subway that little phrase, see something, say something. see something. say something. this was the casey. you see the guy put the backpack down. not being critical. just in the excitement of that moment, you know people were -- runners coming from, there for the marathon and they didn't see that as a possible -- nobody did. >> especially at events like this where basically all of the athletes have a backpack.

authorities last night. one is dead. the other is somewhere on the loose, armed and dangerous in the watertown area much boston. as we speak, governor deval patrick just opened a news cogfrench to give us the latest on the manhunt there. we will report to you rights at the very top of the "full-court press" about five minutes from here what the governor has to say and join that news conference live. meanwhile, just going back to the series of he wants it started when the f.b.i. released the photos of the two suspects that we now know are brothers from chechnya. one, 19. the other, 20 or 21. they have been in this country for some 10 years. they are legal residents of the country. they do have some military training, we are told. and it hasn't been confirmed. at any rate, they saw the photos released by the f.b.i. they knew they might soon be found. they had to get out of town.
5:02 am
>> that's when they started their crime spree with one being shot dead. the other one on the loose. we will update you on the latest from boston on current tv. criticizing, and holding policy to the fire. are you encouraged by what you heard the president say the other night? is this personal or is it political? a lot of my work happens by doing the things that i am given to doing anyway. staying in tough with everything that is going on politically and putting my own nuance on it. not only does senator rubio just care about rich people but somehow he thinks raising the minimum wage is a bad idea for the middle class. but we do care about them, right? vo: the war room monday to thursday at 6 eastern

alright, in 15 minutes we're i think the number one thing that viewers like about the young turks is that we're honest. they know that i'm not bs'ing them with some hidden agenda, actually supporting one party or the other. when the democrats are wrong, they know that i'm going to be the first one to call them out. they can question whether i'm right, but i think that the audience gets that this guy, to the best of his ability, is trying to look out for us. >> if you believe in state's rights but still support the drug war you must be high. >> "viewpoint" digs deep into the issues of the day. >> do you think that there is any chance we'll see this president even say the words "carbon tax"? >> with an open mind... >> has the time finally come for real immigration reform? >> ...and a distinctly satirical point of view.
5:06 am
>> but you mentioned "great leadership" so i want to talk about donald rumsfeld. >> (laughter). >> watch the show. >> only on current tv. >> broadcasting across the nation, on your radio, and on current tv. this is the bill press show. >> one suspect dead and the other at large armed and dangerous in the watertown area of boston which is locked down at the moment. good morning everybody. here we are. it is friday april 19th. this is the full court press coming to you live on your local progressive talk radio station and on current tv and keeping on top of the situation up in boston. the entire team here this

morning. you know who they are and we are joined, also, by a good friend as a friend of bill this hour. bob kusak, managing editor of "the hill"? >> good morning. >> been up all night? >> i tell, it's been early morning. we will never forget what's going on right now. a very scary situation. >> it's been going on since 10:20 last night. we will bring you up to date. first, governor deval patrick and law enforcement officials just ended a brief news conference up in boston. here is what it sounded like. >> we've got every asset that we can possibly muster on the ground right now. they are doing a terrific job and working in concert with each other. we are going to need the public to help us help them stay safe. >> thank you governor. as the governor said this is a rapidly developing situation. within the last half hour we
5:08 am
received information that i have communicated to may the mayor. he has asked me to come here and to tell you that the shelter in place recommendation has been extended throughout the city of bostt. there is a lot of information coming in. we are working very closely with federal authorities in washington. we are examining all data basis. all potential leads and there are officers moving around the city right now. police be patient with us. work with us. if you see anything suspicious let us know. we are trying to make this safe as quickly as possible. this is an ongoing situation. i want to stress this. this is an all ongoing situation. >> timothy alvin. first i want to start by saying thank you to each and every one of you. you have gotten the message to the neighborhood. i have to scurto continue to do that. our number one prior to right now with these neighborhoods here in watertown and making them safe and finding this individual. >> that's what we are committed
5:09 am
to. we need more time. we are making significance pro progress up there. it may takes hours to do this. please bear with us. i know there are a lot of questions and we will have plenty of time to address those after this. but for right now, this is about public safety. this is about the watertown neighborhood. please give us that leadway. we will be back shortly. thank you. >> bill: the reporters we have talked to from boston early in the program told us they have never seen anything like this. an entire community. there are a lot of little suburbs flu west of the charles river, starting with cambridge, entire harvard square har arrested area mit, all of that shut down, all of the other communities, peter. you have mentioned a couple of times the suburbs there. >> peter: yeah. >> they are like like little neighborhoods, a collection of neighborhoods, all shut down. people have been told to stay in their homes. don't dare leave your house. don't let anybody in unless you can see they are clearly police
5:10 am
officers. businesses have been told, stay closed. don't open. no traffic. no car traffic no truck traffic allowed at all in that area. nobody is allowed in or out of the area. the mbta has been shut down entirely. all buses, all commuter trains the t, the subway amtrak has shut down. all service in and out of boston. they are determined they are going to find this guy. he is in the watertown area the one brother still alive. >> the governor is now saying what he said. all of boston there were some specific neighborhoods they thought that this suspect could be belmot allston-brighton. a shotout to done griffith you can find him on twitter
5:11 am
twitter @rsnforlife. he has been giving us updates, helping us out with a lot of stuff. we appreciate the help there again, the governor saying all much boston stay indoors. this guy has been on the run for several hours now and until they find them, i imagine boston will be on lockdown >> bill: this all started clearly when the f.b.i. released these photos, the two brothers realized, somebody's going to spot us. somebody is going to know who we are. we better get out of town. it was their actions that brought the attention of authorities. >> yeah. number 1, i think the police and the have done a phenomenal job. it looked like maybe the trail had gotten cold. they usually don't like to do this. they made the decision, let's release these photos. this is an unpress dented event. unprecedented we have a man habitue with things like twitter. twitter. you knew that these guys once
5:12 am
they had ided them or they would panic. now we have this situation. it has to be so scary that if you are a family getting coffee ready and you can't leave the house. it has to be scary. >> or you look out the window and you see, you know, a s.w.a.t. team or a tank guys with the guns out, you know, pat troing up and down the street somebody took a photo because a bullet had gone through their house. we are learning from things both from authorities and every day citizens. >> one of the most chilling things i heard was the interview this morning with gun guy who looked out the window. this was when the brothers had just moved, come into watertown, the police were chasing them. at the end of the car chase, and he looks out and he sees these two guys duck down behind this black s.u.v. in a fire fight with cops up the street and not only firing back but throwing
5:13 am
explosives and throwing, you know, they lit one device. it looked like another pressure cooker device. it went off, at least filled the street with smoke, gave them, you know an escape hatch. >> that's when the police shot and killed one and the other brothers jumps in the car, turns it around and goes barrelling toward the police with the s.u.v. which is how he got by them and escaped. it's just incred ill. >> there have been reports that these guys and the guy on the loose have military background. that looks to be the case. these are not occurred criminals. >> no? >> remarkable. the fact that they have expanded it to all of boston. >> that's a big development because it obviously doesn't look line they know where this guy is. >> make sure he did not get out of that area.
5:14 am
that was about 1:30 this morning. the whole thing started to repeat -- recapping for a lot of people just joining us, to recap the series of events. the crime spree started when they were held up and robbed a 7-11 on the campus ofmit. they left there. they ambushed mit. they left there. they ambushed. they ambushed a police officer sitting in his car not even coming after them. they shot and killed him. they highjacked a black mercedes s.u.v. the driver in it, they let the driver go. >> very surprising. >> they take off. by this time, the police are in pursuit. there is a car chase that ensues with gunfire, back and forth. i have heard that they were even throwing explosives out of the car at that time toward the police officers who were pursuing them. and then they end up in watertown, which is this
5:15 am
gunfight ta talked about and one brother killed. he was run over. peter, you said he was run over by his -- >> by his brother. >> the car. >> right. >> and he had an i.e.d. on him. >> the brother who was killed had an i.e.d. strapped to his chest. the one brother, the white hat, suspect number 2, escaped. he is theat large. they have identified him, calling him a terrorist. he is armed and dangerous. he came here to kill people. he is somewhere in the boston area. >> can you imagine what the 30-mint or so ride was for that person in the black s.u.v. >> god. >> that person -- >> i wonder -- >> they said that -- they identifiedthems as the people that they were looking for, the police were looking for. the person in the car knew that these were the suspects. >> that person, whoever that is obviously, is going to be interviewed extensively but that
5:16 am
person had to be thinking, there is no way i am going to be getting a lot out of this situation. >> no. i am gone. >> right. >> what we know about the two is they are brothers. we know one of them some day we will all know, dzhokhar dzhokhar-z-h-o-k-h-a-r d-z-h-o-k-h-a-r, dzhokhar tsarnaev. he is 19 years old. his brother -- tamarlin. >> tamarlin tsarnaev. they come from the chechnyan region. they have been here since 2002, 2003. most of this comes from pete williams from nbc the go-to geothis. they have been here that long on. they have a massachusetts driver's license.
5:17 am
so. >> of course the big question is: why? why did they do this? were there any ties internationally or otherwise? who are their other accomplices? >> a big question because usually, you know, you find out they want something. they want prisoners released. we haven't gotten any of that information yet. >> no. but the authorities are on it. every possible -- -- pardon me every possible resource has been sentence into that area and residents have been advised in fact, ordered to stay indoors. i don't think it's possible to leave your home anyhow. i think if you left your home right now, if you tried to get out, you would have a cop at your doorstep. >> that's right. that's right. it's something where you really hope and pray that there are no more faulttalities. this person seems like one of the most extremely dangerous persons. the fact that he was able to get away from authorities. >> with that manhunt, that gunfire and that gun fight. also, all public schools in
5:18 am
boston have been clothes. all public schools closed and campuses are closed. the whole shooting match. >> a couple of things to add, it looks like the age of the deceased terrorist is being sort of adjusted to say he might actually be older. he might be 26. waiting to confirm that. pete williams earlier said -- whatever pete says goes. this is just now happening. @massgovernor. he tweeted out all mbta service remains suspended until further notice, asking people to shelter in place and stay indoors. don't open the door for anyone except identified law enforcement officers. we need the public to help us help them stay safe and he tweeted this as i was talking. all in watertown, came bridge wal that may newton, belmo. nt
5:19 am
allston and brighton should stay indoors. the whole city. >> all of those. >> shutting it down shut down. they are stopping cab service. i don't know how that would work and if that's 100% true. there are rumors these guys are using cabs. >> i wonder if they will shut logan airport next. i haven't heard that next. you think that would be hard. >> confirmed, boston police are saying all taxi service in boston suspended as the city shuts down. they are shutting boston down. >> it's tough because earlier in the day and people are not up. there are some people who don't turn on the television when they get up and go about their business and. >> we hate them. we hate people like that. >> far and few between. this is going to be a challenge and a crazy week with the ricin.
5:20 am
>> exactly. >> that appears to be resolved. hopefully this will be resolved too. >> bill: this morning when they announced as we were starting the show, when they announced they were shutting down the transit system until further notice, the other thing they told people, don't leave your home, to try to get the bus because you won't be able to get it or the t or whatever but also, if you had left and you are there at the statement, go home. don't wait at the station for service to resume because the last thing they want is a crowd anywhere, particularly well a guy like this on the loose. right? so boston, a ghost town except for the swat teams and police officers out on the search for suspect number 2. it's the full court press. a very scary friday april 19th. >> radio meets television, "the bill press show," now on current tv.
5:21 am
laughing... >> that's hilarious! >> ...and the thinkers thinking. >> okay, so there's wiggle-room in the ten commandments is what you're telling me. >> she's joy behar. >> and current will let me say anything. >> only on current tv. can become major victories. i'm phil mickelson, pro golfer. when i was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis my rheumatologist prescribed enbrel for my pain and stiffness, and to help stop joint damage. 5:26 am
channel 5 up in the boston area. let's see what they are covering. >> f.b.i. agents have been on the scene here for some time and they are going through that apartment or home and combing every bit of evidence, possible evidence there. >> current in our newsroom right now with more on the suspects and more on the reports that they are brothers. cathy? >> bianca we are learning the two suspects are brothers. we are learning much more about dzhokhar tsarnaev. he grew up in camebridge. he graduated graduated from the cambridge latin school in 2011. we have learned he received a scholarship from the city of cambridge. we spoke to a former classmate who told us he was an athlete, a wrestler, and according to the classmate, he was a very quiet young man. we know he has an older sister and older brother, tamarlin. we are hearing that the two
5:27 am
suspects are brothers at this point. >> we want to just interrupt for just a second. stay with us. you can see on the left side of the screen now full screen people leaving that area of cambridge. they are being evacuated from that neighborhood while the f.b.i. and local state and police are doing their investigation. >> mothers and children. >> dogs and young children now leaving that area. just in case. >> obviously, it's what could be inside. if they are carrying around explosives with them when they were getting into a gun fight, we don't really know exactly what could be in the home here. and obviously, extreme caution. the utmost care for the people the innocent people who are living in this area. they don't want to be any -- to see any more people hurt. >> they were heavily armed bianca. obviously, that would be a concern, you know, of anything.
5:28 am
>> bill: so that's the coverage again from wcvb up in boston. at first we heard these guys out of some international ties but seems like both grew up in the cambridge. their parents, i guess maybe came from chechnya or maybe they did come here as young kids. they went to school here grew up here. scholarships. >> bizarre. we will hear from the neighbors who lived next to these guys and the thing now is you want to avoid a hostage situation. that's what authorities want to avoid >> bill: i think that's what they are afraid of. he could be in one of these homes there in the cambridge area, heavily armed, holding a family hostage and there has been speculation, too, he may have already committed suicide know that his brother is dead and it's only a matter of time before they get him. >> yeah. >> he is not going to be taken alive. >> bill: i doubt it. we will continue to monitor the

situation up in boston here on the "full-court press." >> this is "the bill press show." compelling true stories. >> jack, how old are you? >> nine. >> this is what 27 tons of marijuana looks like. >> this is the bill press show >> bill: events have moved swiftly in the boston marathon bombing situation from the release of the photos yesterday afternoon, about 5:00 o'clock to the situation today where the entire city, if you can believe it, the entire city of boston has been locked down. nobody allowed to leave their home or their place of business. businesses not allowed to open.
5:34 am
cab service shut down the entire transportation shut down the streets shut down no vehicular traffic, with one suspect dead and the other suspect still at large. police officers do not know where he is. they think he is located or holed up in the watertown area of boston, but they are not sure of that. bob studio is a friend of bill. we were talking about logan airport before the break. >> an update. logan airport is still open. they are operating under heightened security. there are some flight restrictions regarding flight paths trying to keep heightened security. we did confirm the taxi service in boston has been shut down. the mbta has been shut down. boston is on a total lockdown. it's kind of weird to think about the fact that the
5:35 am
president was just there yesterday afternoon and now the entire city is completely on lockdown. >> i wonder about the weather. we should try to check that. earlier, bob, we were told they weren't able to get the police helicopters up because of fog cover and low cloud cover. which might help, were they able to to over those neighborhoods? >> that's right. >> what they need is a drone. >> it was a clear day. >> all right. but no, with the airport you can't get to the airport. you would not be able to get to the airport from what we heard. chris geithner good friend from buzz feed has been monitoring this situation ass have -- as have many reporters. good morning, chris.
5:36 am
>> good morning. >> yeah. >> all nighter. chris, tell us if you can -- i know your latest report is on who these two guys, who the brothers are. what do we know about them? >> what we know about them is still developing but that the brother who remains at large is 20 years old and has been in the country for it rooks like at least a decade. he was a winter all-star wrestler in 2011 at cambridge latin school, had gotten a $2,5002500 scholarship from the city of cambridge for his college higher education studies.
5:37 am
he's a registered voter, was a part of the cambridge community. >> this was the younger one? >> yeah. >> his brother, tamerlin 26. so they came here from chechnya. is that rit? do we know? >> yeah. we don't know exactly. we know that there is a connection to the area, that they are from somewhere in that area and on a russian facebook page. i don't know how to say it. tkoncape. the groups that he is in is
5:38 am
shishen. >> bill: do they have family in the area? >> we do not know any of that yet. >> as of yet? i think probably by later today i would imagine the f.b.i. would have nailed -- tracked these guys down. >> they didn't have to track them down. it's been a lot of pete williams all morning. i have more pete williams. he reports officials think they know where this suspect in the white hat is holed up. they think they have located him. he also says that there may be a third person of interest in this now. there is definitely something going on boston right now. some outlets report that they smell smoke in the area. cnn just had a reporter on the scene and was reporting from where there is a lot of police
5:39 am
activity and a police officer came up and told her to get out of the area and they are trying to reestablish a shot and police are sort of swarming around that cameraman. something is going on right now. i am not sure what it is. we will you know. >> is this the same office apartment complex? >> this is a different complex than the one they were looking at earlier. >> chris, you know, i was seeing something, but i haven't been able to watch. are there any videos on youtube of these guys? i had seen something of twitter. does that provide any clues of who these guys are? >> yes. there is actually haven't been able to get into the videos yet. the one and only scott lamb at buzzfeed feed has looked at the videos, and notes that they do focus on islam, and it is --
5:40 am
criticizes others' views of islam and has, like, other videos and talks about how he accepted islam. >> yeah. >> just a mystery, developing story, unbelievable. >> they have to get this guy. >> the youtube account is from tamerlin, who was the brother who was killed in the fire fight last night. >> chris thanks for taking some time for us this morning my friend. we will talk to you again, soon. chris guide ner with buzzfeed at the buzzfeed.com. damage, you have been monitoring wcvb and they reported from abc news, pierre thomas saying suspect number 2 may be trying
5:41 am
to take hostages in this building that he is potentially holed up in. >> that's the latest. join the feed if we want. they have been talking to people who knew these suspects and getting reaction about what they think. >> the f.a.a. as we see here, ordering a no-fly zone over the city. let's check in again. >> when look at the high school photo, you go how did this person get this far off course, you know, looks nice a nice kid. good friends with a number of people. when you look at his picture you go, how does it happen? >> jim we are on a little bit of a delay but the people being evacuated and we have seen a lot of families. >> is there a place, a bus they are getting on? where is their safe place that they are being evacuated from their home?
5:42 am
>> you know, we are seeing a lot of people just walk the cars. there is one gentleman across the street loading his car with blank et cetera, but we have not seen any large scale way of transporting them from the scene. we have certainly not seen that. we have seen people walking down the street to other vehicles. i am trying to take a look down the street. i am not seeing anything that would -- anything out of the ordinary. >> you have to wonder. they are being advised not to the obvious streets. you have to feel for these families now. >> in the immediate area. friends, family. there is some which is understandable with an event like this. being through the riots in los angeles, i can remember the confusion among people, you know, living in the community.
5:43 am
you don't know what to do. and looks like the police helicopters are up now at this point. but some people have been told to stay in their homes and yet some people are being allowed. i don't know how they are getting out if vehicular traffic is not allowed. it's a confusing situation. >> that's pretty brave when you are flying that helicopter because you don't know that this guy is not the going to try to shoot you down. >> that would be one way of giving away his location. >> it's very interesting that they let one guy go. maybe that was not a good time for them to take hostages now the fear is he is trying to take hostages? >> it looks like right now they think that they know where this guy in the white hat, the other suspect is. there are a lot of police around one house in watertown now lots
5:44 am
of guns drawn. there is definitely something happening right now. >> i am not sure exactly what it is. but as it happens, we will let you know. >> bill: again the full court press, friday morning. stay with us for the latest in this unfolding manhunt and crime scene up in boston massachusetts. the whole city in lockdown this morning. >> this is "the bill press show." 5:49 am
on that and zeroing in on that. >> yeah. >> the rumors he might be trying to take hostages there. >> members of congress this week, they were distracted. they went to -- definitely haul a gun debate you had immigration bill but they were all getting, you know, the intelligence committee guys and others were getting briefed on this because that's where their focus was. they wanted to know like everybody else, what is going on? >> our focus has been there this morning. we have been monitoring wcvb which is the abc affiliate in boston. at last we checked, they were talking to a woman who lives in this neighborhood where the police activity is underway right now. >> to stay inside and call 911 if you see anything suspicious. >> you have belmont and cambridge and brighton but really all of the city of boston being impacted right now and newton as well. >> there is no where to go.
5:50 am
cab service has been shut down, t service has been completely suspended. all they want to do right now is to apprehend the second marathon bomber who is out there, the suspect who has brought terror to our city since monday afternoon and has continued on the violent path there killing an mit police officer, critically injurying an mbta officer in the overnight hours. this is the scene unfolding. it is growing on norfolk street in cambridge where we now know the two suspects, brothers from cambridge grew up, lived among the community there. >> we are learning more details about these two individuals. john atwater has recently been talking to aus expect number 2. guidance counselor. john? >> the high school guidance counselor of this suspect -- pardon me. i am just arriving here we are trying to get through here, dealing with a lot of police
